Education

Metek has an excellent portfolio of successfully built schools & education projects. Metek are one of the few companies that have in-house design, manufacture and contracting, giving customers a one-stop experience and a single point of responsibility.

Completed projects include:

  • South Nottinghamshire Academy, Radcliffe on Trent
  • Woodlands School, Allestree, Derby
  • Middlesex University Development Phase 3, Hendon Campus
  • Oaks Park High School, Redbridge
  • Dalkeith School, Edinburgh

Metek Light Steel Framing has been extremely well received by the construction industry where rapid-build steel construction methods meet their demand for high levels of acoustic performance, speed of construction and quality. Educational buildings also benefit from using light steel infill walls and long span flooring where excellent thermal and acoustic levels can be achieved.

Advantages of Metek Light Steel Framing in Educational buildings

  • Significantly reduced time on site vs masonry
  • Increased quality
  • Faster speed of construction
  • BIM, Revit modelled
  • Hot rolled steel incorporated as part of the light steel frame
  • Light weight provides thermally responsive construction and good energy efficiency.
  • Safer construction process
  • Non-combustible construction
  • Sheathing can be high performance rigid insulation with brick cladding or cement particle board where rain screen systems are specified.
  • Savings in foundation weights
  • Less site waste
  • Structural performance substantiated by tests
  • High levels of insulation and airtightness easily achieved
  • Predictability of process
  • Just-in-time delivery
  • Good energy efficiency

South Nottinghamshire Academy Under construction

South Nottinghamshire Academy, Radcliffe on Trent

Metek’s light steel infill walling system was used to create a lightweight highly energy efficent façade.

South Notts Academy is a new build school being rebuilt under the East Midlands capital batch, Priority School Building Programme with funding from the Education Funding Agency. The project was a BIM driven light steel frame (“LSF”) project for Bowmer and Kirkland at South Nottinghamshire Academy, Radcliffe on Trent in the borough of Rushcliffe.

Metek installed the light steel frame at high speed and at short notice; sheathing, waterproofing and insulating the frame. The infill walls where modelled using BIM, sequencing the installation of each light and hot-rolled steel element, coordinating with M&E.

Our BIM model automatically generates orders for associated products, then delivered just in time and installed by Metek. For example, CP sheathing board and insulation.
